Mauritius is a stunning island with towering mountains and lush landscapes. There are a few high end resorts scattered throughout the country, with many of them centered on the east coast thanks to its calm lagoons and spectacular surroundings. The Four Seasons is a spectacular retreat so read on to learn more about what to expect during your stay.

Location: 5/5

Situated on an idyllic stretch of lagoon, the Four Seasons Mauritius at Anahita is located in a gated community of residences, resorts and a golf club. The resort is a 50-60 minute drive from the international airport, making for an easy transfer along a coastal road to the resort.

The Four Seasons property is made up of villas across 64 acres, including the mainland and a separate island accessible by bridge. 

One of the key features of the resort is its proximity to Ile aux Cerfs, one of the famous islands frequented by tour groups and day trippers. Four Seasons has a private beach club on Ile aux Cerfs, which is accessible by a quick boat ride from the resort.  

Overall, the location of the Four Seasons is exceptional, thanks to its secluded, calm lagoon and easy access to Ile aux Cerfs.

Lobby & Check in experience: 5/5

Four Seasons is located in a gated community, so once you arrive at the front entrance of the resort itself, the bellmen are already there waiting for you. We were escorted out of the car into the stunning lobby for a seated check-in.

The lobby itself has high, vaulted ceilings and a beautiful view of the property beyond. The main hotel bar is located in the lobby and there is ample comfortable and trendy seating throughout the lobby. 

We enjoyed a delicious welcome drink of lemongrass and pineapple while we waited for the check in to wrap up and were quickly taken on a tour of the property on the way to the villa. The bellman told us everything we needed to know about the grounds, restaurants and facilities on the way in the buggy.

The whole experience from arriving to entering our villa was easy, informative and thorough.

Rooms: 4/5

All 136 rooms at Four Seasons are villa-style with private patios and outdoor bathrooms. We were checked into the Island Beach Pool Villa, a 1,130 square foot private villa with direct access to the Quiet Beach. 

We entered through the private courtyard to an expansive “backyard” with a plunge pool, covered chaise loungers and direct access to the beach. The villa itself features a king bed facing the view with the customary Four Seasons bedding.

The patio doors can be opened and a mosquito screen can be drawn down from the ceiling to allow for airflow without being inundated with bugs, which was a fantastic feature. 

The minibar is sizable, complete with a variety of liquors, wines and non-alcoholic beverages. The water is complimentary, as well as the tea and coffee. We received a number of welcome gifts, including a fruit platter and local Takamaka wine made from lychees (delicious). 

The bathroom is, as always, my personal favorite part of the villa. The double vanity faces the view, but the privacy screen is available if you prefer a more separated bathroom from the bedroom. To one side, you will find the walk-in closet and the other has a separate toilet room. There is a bathtub complete with Diptyque bath salts as well as the indoor shower that faces the private outdoor area with glass surrounding the back wall. Outside, you will find a private outdoor shower with a waterfall shower head. The bathroom is luxurious and private and the Diptyque products were an excellent choice. 

The covered patio next to the plunge pool has a seating area as well as a dinette facing the view and is a fantastic place to relax, particularly in the rain as it protects you completely from the elements. 

The rooms do come with Four Seasons-branded bicycles as well that can be used around the property and the broader Anahita complex. Since our room was on the Island, we did not use them much as everything felt very close to the room. 

The entry level room type is the Garden Pool Villa and they are located on the mainland part of the property. They are a bit further from the breakfast restaurant and beachfront, but offer the same privacy, seclusion and villa setup as the island villas. 

The property does offer a Presidential Suite on the island as well as a variety of residences that are well suited for larger families or groups.

Overall, the rooms are comfortable and have fantastic outdoor spaces. They do need a bit of maintenance and love when it comes to modernization of lighting/room features as well as ensuring things like the mosquito screen is functioning prior to a guest arrival, but we do hope that updates are coming soon. 

Service: 4.5/5

Overall, service at the Four Seasons was good. The property has a number of amenities that are unique and make you feel very appreciated throughout the day. Staff members constantly come by sunbeds across the resort with sweet treats like fruits, little cakes, juices, little shots of tasty rum beverages and more. There is a service member who also comes around once in a while to clean your sunglasses. They were also exceptionally good at bringing water to your sun chairs immediately when you sat down and consistently throughout the day. These types of sweet gestures really elevate the service experience overall.

Four Seasons also offers twice daily housekeeping and each turndown, we received little gifts. One night we received an extravagant dessert for Chinese New Year and another night we received chocolate and 24k gold champagne. Every night was something new and unique and it was well presented with a card or accompanying details. 

Four Seasons does not have designated butlers for the villas, but guests can contact the front desk via Whatsapp or phone for any requests. We do feel the addition of butlers would bring the experience to the next level to provide a more personalized experience throughout the entire journey of a guest stay. 

Similarly, the service could be more anticipatory of a guest’s needs. Despite having all these incredible amenities throughout the day, we felt there was often a gap between doing the minimum and going beyond expectations. For example, if it is raining outside, it would have been excellent to have the restaurant call ahead for a buggy so that the guest doesn’t have to ask. That level of anticipation takes service beyond “good” to “great”. 

Overall, we did feel the service at this property was better than our previous experiences at other Four Seasons resorts around the world. With small tweaks to training around anticipating needs, we feel this property is not far from that 5 star service experience.

Dining: 4.5/5

Four Seasons offers guests 8 different food and beverage outlets across the resort and we had the opportunity to try a number of them. Overall, the dining was excellent. Here is the breakdown of our experience:

Bambou 

Bambou is the main restaurant on the property. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Their breakfast buffet is excellent, with seemingly endless stations. They offer live stations featuring eggs benedicts and other egg dishes, pancakes, french toast and more. They have a juice bar with fresh-squeezed healthy juices, a large fruit station, cold cuts (including pork) as well as yogurts and cereals.  Finally, they do have a pastry station with croissants, breads and sweet breads.

At the table, you can order a variety of coffees, teas and juices as well.  We really enjoyed the breakfast spread and the setting on the edge of the beach.

Blu’zil

Blu’zil is the main bar on property and features a variety of cocktails, wines, beers and mocktails. The cocktails, particularly on David’s list, are exceptional and beautifully presented. The bar overlooks the lagoon and has a mix of hanging chairs, comfortable couches and sitting areas. We loved the live music and entertainment, though wished the entertainment was timed before or after popular dinner hours as we seemed to only catch the last song each evening after dinner.

La Plaz

La Plaz is the restaurant on the Ile aux Cerfs that is private to Four Seasons guests. The food itself at the restaurant is excellent. The wagyu burger and steak panini were exceptional and a lot of food. As a note, they do serve complimentary water at your beach chairs, but if you dine at the restaurant they serve a chargeable water only. The service was quite lacking, as was the decor overall. Guests can dine at their beach chairs if they prefer, which is probably what we would do next time. 

The bar, on the other hand, has incredible decor and has a very Tulum vibe. The hanging chairs and music were super fun and we spent a long time enjoying the hanging chairs and drinks. We hope they update the rest of the restaurant to match the aesthetics of the bar.

Acquapazza with Marco Garfagnini

Acquapazza is a staple at the resort, but currently has a special menu by a 2-michelin star chef, Marco Garfagnini. Chef Garfagnini visited the resort, crafted a special menu and trained the service staff to provide 2-michelin star service to guests dining at the restaurant. The service training the staff received was very clear, as the service at this outlet far exceeded the service at the other restaurants on property. The menu was exceptional, with delicious and unique flavor combinations. The only thing we didn’t love was that the service was almost too fast. Dishes were brought almost immediately upon ordering, breaking the facade that the food was created specifically for you. We do wish they would slow down the service a bit to allow time to digest but also enjoy the entire experience. 

As a note, the restaurant is not included on the meal plans. We did run into a few guests who did not realize that before their dinner so if you are looking to stick within your meal plan, that is important to remember.

Umi.Zaka

Umi.Zaka is the Asian fusion restaurant at the Four Seasons and features dishes ranging from sushi to black cod, chicken Kung Pao and more. While the service was not great, the sushi was delicious. We ended up ordering exclusively sushi during our dinner because it was delicious to enjoy fresh sashimi and sushi after a day in the sun. They do also have a number of good cocktails that paired well with the sushi. 

Lazy Fish

Lazy Fish is the seafood restaurant on property that is situated next to Bambou on the beach. This was my personal favorite restaurant on property due to its delicious and fresh seafood options and excellent service. The dining experience is interesting in that you order a main course and it comes with the starters and the dessert.  We enjoyed the Vielle Rouge as well as “Patrick’s Platter” and both were delicious.

Room Service

Four Seasons does offer room service for all meals, as well as a number of romantic experiences. We were able to indulge in a couples romantic breakfast setup on our patio and it was adorable! They set up a beautiful table with heart-shaped everything – from heart shaped bagels to fruit hearts, it was very romantic and tasty. They do also offer floating breakfast, though I would only recommend that if you have a suite with a larger pool for the photo op.

Four Seasons has everything you would expect from a great resort. There are two main beaches on the resort property, the 2 sides of the beach next to Bambou restaurant, the Quiet Beach (meant to be adults only- which is not enforced) as well as the Ile aux Cerfs beach that is 10 minutes away by boat and is complimentary to access. The beach on Ile aux Cerfs is stunning with teal water and soft white sand. The other two beaches on property are great if you don’t want to leave the property and are very quiet and relaxing. 

The main beach area also has a fantastic swimming pool and both the pool and all the beaches have full beach service with drinks, food and complimentary snacks and treats throughout the day.

The resort also has a fantastic fitness center with a lap pool, outdoor training area as well as an indoor gym complete with cold towels. There is a spa-like locker room with a steam room and showers as well. 

The watersports center has complimentary non-motorized activities like sailing, kayaks, paddle boards and more. They do also offer water skiing for free, as many 5 star properties in Mauritius do. Max had a blast water skiing on the perfectly calm lagoon! 

The spa is an incredible facility with overwater spa treatment rooms and excellent quality treatments. We had a wonderful couples massage in an overwater suite. The one piece we felt was missing from the spa was a true relaxation area with a steam and sauna, but the quality of the massage made up for the lack of amenities.

There are two accessible 18-hole golf courses, one at Anahita and one on Ile aux Cerfs. There are also 2 tennis courts on property.

They do offer a variety of fitness classes on property, though most of them are paid.

Overall, the facilities at Four Seasons are fantastic. While we wish they offered more complimentary fitness classes and a broader spa facility, the complimentary watersports, access to Ile aux Cerfs and wide range of facilities across property made for an incredible experience.

Style: 4/5

Four Seasons has incredibly lush landscaping and you really feel like you are in a beautiful, tropical paradise when you walk around the grounds.The buildings are all neutral tones, shorter than the palm trees and don’t stick out or feel overbearing.  The restaurants and main spaces are particularly stylish with a consistent, comfortable and modern vibe that we absolutely loved. 

We hope that in the next modernization or refresh of the rooms that they add some of those elements into the rooms that they have perfected with the lobby and main spaces.

Overall, we absolutely loved our time at the Four Seasons Resort in Mauritius. The comfortable, private villas and incredible food and beverage offerings alongside the amazing facilities really make the Four Seasons a standout in Mauritius. We absolutely cannot wait to return to experience more of the property and facilities of the Four Seasons.
